In mid-September, Chung Wah Community Care (Chung Wah CC) hosted a small party at the Balcatta Community Hub for senior volunteers Uncle David and Jenny, celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary.

The couple has two children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Uncle David and Jenny, originally from China, migrated to Perth in 1997 to reunite with their family. They joined the Chung Wah CC volunteering family in 1998 and have been with us for 25 years, witnessing our growth throughout their journey.

Under the leadership of CEO Theresa Kwok, the staff, volunteers, and senior clients of Chung Wah CC witnessed this special wedding anniversary, offering their congratulations and blessings. Theresa expressed her deep gratitude for the couple's contributions to Chung Wah CC and the community over the past 25 years.

The thoughtful and tender-hearted Uncle David wrote an article for his wife titled "A Glass of Warm Water". Uncle David expressed gratitude for his wife's meticulous care, love, and concern over the years through a simple glass of warm water. The plain water tasted sweet in his heart, with the written words revealing deep gratitude and heartfelt memories.

Uncle David presented Jenny with the article, a bouquet, and a tender kiss. The love between the couple is admirable and serves as a beautiful example for others. They have shown us that love can remain fresh and strong over time.

 Uncle David's article:

"I can't quite recall when it began, but it must have been over some decade ago. My wife told me, "Drinking a glass of warm water after waking up in the morning is very beneficial for the body." Seeing my indifferent expression, she went on and on, listing five or six benefits of drinking water and staring at me with an affectionate yet commanding tone. She reminded me, "You must drink a glass of water in the morning. Keep it up!" I replied, "Alright, alright." It was just a glass of water, but I merely gave a verbal commitment.

Since then, every early morning, when I'm in a half-asleep, half-awake daze, a gentle voice whispers in my ear: "Drink water!" I'd sit up and see the wall clock showing 6:30. Accepting the warm water handed to me by my wife, I'd drink and then start my day. In this manner, day after day, year after year, I would always drink a warm glass of water every early morning.

The colourless, tasteless, clear and mild temperature liquid, once passed through my wife's hands, conveys her deep love and strong affection. Drinking that glass of warm water daily feels sweet in my mouth, warming the heart and lungs, and providing a comfortable sensation throughout the body. In an instant, memories of my childhood, adolescence, and youth flash by, recalling my mother's meticulous nurturing and care. As I progressed to middle age and later years, my wife also cared for me. Thanks to them, I am now 87 and still feeling safe and healthy. The love and care from my mother and wife are deeply engraved in my heart, unforgettable!"
