Carer Peer Support Group

The Spanish-speaking caregivers were brought together for their first meetup at the Balcatta Community Centre. The Carer Gateway team of Chung Wah CAC and Sara from Carers WA were also in the gathering and guided caregivers to break the ice and share their stories and experiences.

Suppose you provide unpaid care and support to family members or friends with disability, illness, mental conditions or seniors, you're considered as a carer. Caring for others can be a demanding and exhausting job. Caregivers also need to be cared for to handle emotions and other stresses. As a member of the Carer Gateway and one of the partner organisations of the Carer WA, Chung Wah CAC provides services for non-English speaking carers and assists them in accessing the Carer Gateway information and relevant support.

The Carer Gateway Initiative is a free government service providing carers with emotional, social and other support. One of the services is to organise Peer Support Groups for carers. The Peer Support Group activities can be online (Online community forum) or offline (In-Person Peer Support, IPPS). IPPS meets regularly in a safe and supportive environment, allowing you to meet other carers going through the same journey and share stories, experiences and knowledge. This is a practical way to support each other, providing emotional comfort and practical advice. The Carer Gateway team of Chung Wah CAC also arranges counselling support and talks on various topics. If you want to know more about the Carer Gateway, please contact us.
