Mr. Jin, our proud consumer at Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC), is very passionate about calligraphy. He has been busy wielding his brush at the Balcatta Community Hub, enthusiastically writing Spring Festival couplets for the elderly members of both the northern and southern community hubs. Spring couplets, a traditional Chinese custom, are an integral part of the Lunar New Year celebrations, symbolising replacing the old with the new and welcoming a prosperous year ahead. Unlike traditional couplets, Spring Festival couplets typically consist of four auspicious words, wishing for good fortune in the new year. This custom of hanging Spring Festival couplets originated in the Song Dynasty and became widespread in the Ming Dynasty.

According to historical records, Zhu Yuanzhang, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, was particularly fond of couplets. He not only wrote them himself but also strongly promoted this tradition. Mr. Jin, originally from Vietnam, is deeply immersed in calligraphy, painting, and singing. His voluntary activity of writing Spring Festival couplets not only satisfies the traditional needs of the senior members but also enhances his engagement and enriches his life and confidence in the community.

After Mr. Jin and his wife started attending activities at the CWCC Balcatta Community Hub, they made many new friends. They actively participate in various activities at the hub, leading to a fulfilling life and becoming an integral part of the community during their golden years. The vibrant red calligraphy and the rich aroma of ink in Mr. Jin's writing contain heartfelt New Year blessings, bringing the joyous spirit of the Spring Festival to the elderly at the hub.
