International Volunteer Day 2023

20231205 Volunteer Day 2023 01

On the 5th of December each year, communities around the globe celebrate International Volunteer Day (IVD). In Western Australia, this special day is also known as "Thank a Volunteer Day".

It is a day dedicated to celebrating and appreciating volunteers' contributions to society, bringing together countless compassionate individuals working towards a better world. It began in 1951 when the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution calling on governments to encourage and support volunteer service. In 1970, the UN declared it the International Year of Volunteers, and in 1985, designated the 5th of December as International Volunteer Day.

This year's IVD theme is " The power of everyone – if everyone did," urging everyone to join the volunteer service and make the world a better place. Imagine the potential for sustainable development if over 8 billion people participate in volunteer services, providing food and education, creating clean environments and healthy societies, and building inclusive and peaceful societies.

At Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC), we will celebrate International Volunteer Day on the 9th of December with a special outing for our volunteers, expressing our deepest gratitude and admiration for their service and selfless dedication. Volunteers are the backbone of CWCC and are integral to our growth and development. From board members to frontline staff, the spirit of volunteerism permeates all aspects of our services.

Over the years, we have built strong bonds with our volunteers through daily activities and special events, and they are a vital part of our organisational structure. The special outings expressed our profound gratitude for the volunteers' immense support and dedication and enriched their understanding of CWCC’s services, fostering closer team spirit. Furthermore, we are committed to helping our volunteers expand their social circles and increase their knowledge of Australian history and culture, easing their integration into the mainstream Australian community.

Our volunteers come from various walks of life, each talented in their own right. In the operation of our community centres, they play different roles, such as hobby class instructors, kitchen assistants, and performers. Regardless of their role, their support for CWCC is equally vital. They are not just service providers but essential members of our big family. If you share a passion for the community and wish to join CWCC as a volunteer, you are always welcome to contact us: Phone: 08 9328 3988, Email: This email address is being protected from spambots. Together, "The power of everyone," our actions weave a beautiful symphony of love and dedication.
