Nowadays, it is essential to learn a little more about the legal knowledge relating to our daily life, work and rights, as the law has pervaded every aspect of our lives. Moreover, legal literacy enables us to comply with the laws and protect ourselves. However, to remain complacent, we may find ourselves in a world of trouble.

COTA WA (Council on the Ageing Western Australia) has published a Guide to help people to untangle the intricacies of many legal issues to better prepare us as we continue our life's journey. This Guide was created with feedback from various parties in WA and has been confirmed by older people in the community for the need for this information. On 21 February, the Hon. Don Punch MLC, Minister for Regional Development; Disability Services; Fisheries; Seniors and Ageing, officially launched the COTA WA "Let's Make It Legal Guide" at the Parliament House.

The Guide is designed to help older people to navigate the legal complexities in their daily life which including:

1. Housing and accommodation

2. Loans

3. Family violence

4. Guardianship and Administration Act 1990

5. Public Trustee

6. Public Advocate

7. Wills

8. Organ donation

9. Advance Care Planning

10. Voluntary Assisted Dying

11. Legal Resources

The information in the Guide can be accessed by community members according to their individual needs, and it is currently available in English. It can be downloaded from the COTA WA website: https://www.cotawa.org.au
